UFGG – ITM Flute Grinder

>> The ITM Universal Flute & Gunnose Grinder (UFGG – Tool Grinder) is a Flute Grinding Machine for grinding taps, reamers, drills or endmills with an optional automatic part loading system. With nine CNC controlled axes, setup time is fast (usually 10 minutes or less), making the machine economical for both large or small production runs. This machine can be set-up to grind straight flutes, fast helix flutes and gunnose flutes in one clamping.

Using the optional automatic loader and online dresser, it is possible to run the flute & tool grinding machine unattended 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All feed rates and grinding cycles can be programmed by the operator for optimum cycle time and surface finish.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Production is the key factor in Tool manufacturing. The challenge is obtaining high production rates without sacrificing tool quality. The ITM UFGG is a Flute Grinding Machine for taps or similar parts with an optional automatic part loading system. With five CNC controlled axes, setup time is fast (usually 30 minutes or less), making the machine economical for both large or small production runs.

The machine has a heavy, welded, stress‑relieved base. The workhead (A axis), rotary table (U axis), cross slide (X axis), longitudinal slide (Y axis) and vertical supported column (Z axis) are CNC controlled.

This tool grinding machine can be operated with wheel speeds up to 80 m/s when using the correct grinding wheels. The rigidity of the machine, as well as, the programmable capability allows the use of standard resinoid wheels, plated CBN wheels, dressable CBN wheels or diamond wheels. This design offers the rigidity needed for high production applications.

All axes are controlled by digital AC servo motors with encoder feedback. The X, Y and Z axes have an incremental movement of .001mm with a rapid traverse rate up to 2,500mm/min. The resolution of the A, and U axes is .001º.

CONTROL DESCRIPTION

The machine has the latest FANUC CNC controls with a 1 in 1milllion defect rate. Readouts on the control include stored part program, current position coordinates with numbers three times standard size, distance to go, command blocks, machine parameters, used macros and diagnostic data to help service CNC, PLC and grinding programs.
